backerman: Two meerkittens being cute (Default)
My four-year-old Japanese dictionary, a Canon Wordtank IDF-3000, died this morning due to being between my foot and the floor. I could order a new screen from Mouser and install it—if I had the equipment and training to desolder and resolder four hundred connections on two ribbon cables with 400 µm spacing. I'm not even sure if that can be done manually without waldos. Repair is definitely a no-go.

Anyone have any comments about the current crop of dictionaries? While Casio's trilingual English/German/Japanese is nifty, I'll probably not quite spend that much $ and get either another 3000 or upgrade to a G50. (I'm particularly interested in finding out if Seiko's models are capable of being in the competition, since they appear to have correctly implemented their jump function now.)
