It turns out that Speakeasy doesn't have service in the CO for my new condo. So what do I do? My requirements are a static IP address, no prohibitions of servers in TOS, and at least 384k upload. I'll be using the servers bit for my email domain and some mod_perl and/or JSP/servlets (within next 2 mos, I hope). The options:
- Get DSL from Cyberonic; 1.5/384, one static address (no more available). $109/mo—it's expensive because it's through New Edge.
- Verizon DSL, which is 1.5/384 with one static for $80/mo, first three months free.
- Comcast cable modem $43/mo (with purchase of cable service) or Verizon dynamic DSL 1.5/384 $35/mo (with phone line), plus a server off somewhere. Could be virtual, could be dedicated, but needs to be one or the other. (Something like either RimuHosting's VPSen or 1and1's oh-so-cheap dedicated servers.)
