Penguins are cute.
Nov. 29th, 2003 07:34 pm現在、Gentoo Linuxをインストールしています。第一歩よりLVMを使うことは、かっこいいです。わい!LVM!わい!
Since most of the people reading this LJ don't actually speak Japanese, I'll say that again. "I'm currently installing Gentoo Linux. Being able to use LVM from the start is really cool. Wai! LVM! Wai!"
Anyhow, some random observations for anyone who's thinking about it in the future:
- XFree86 takes forever and a day to build. Also, the build process uses at least 600 MB of disk space, and that was just when I was looking, so
/var/tmpshould probably have at least a gig available. - Those of you who have never used a Sun may wonder what the heck
/optis about. The Java subsystem is the only software that's shown up there so far; we'll see what else uses it. - In
/etc/make.conf, you might be forgiven for thinking that the+=operator would work. It doesn't, butUSEflags can be specified on multiple lines, like so:USE="acl apache2 avi bidi cdr cjk crypt cups curl doc emacs emacs-w3 encode ethereal freewnn gdbm gif imap ipv6 java jikes jpeg junit leim maildir mbox mmx mozilla mpeg ncurses nls odbc oggvorbis ppds pdflib perl png postgres python quicktime qt readline ruby lang snmp spell ssl tcltk tetex tiff truetype unicode usb wxwindows X xface xml xml2 zlib evms2" - Some usage figures for the above
USEflags: (install still in progress; will be updated later)Filesystem 1M-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/hda3 244 45 199 19% /mnt/gentoo /dev/hda1 92 1 87 1% /mnt/gentoo/boot /dev/vg/opt 1024 110 914 11% /mnt/gentoo/opt /dev/vg/tmp 512 33 480 7% /mnt/gentoo/tmp /dev/vg/usr 2048 957 1092 47% /mnt/gentoo/usr /dev/vg/usrlocal 5120 33 5088 1% /mnt/gentoo/usr/local /dev/vg/var 1024 52 973 6% /mnt/gentoo/var /dev/vg/varlog 512 33 480 7% /mnt/gentoo/var/log /dev/vg/varmail 2048 33 2016 2% /mnt/gentoo/var/mail /dev/vg/home 2048 33 2016 2% /mnt/gentoo/home
My plans for this box involve qmail+vpopmail, Apache2+mod_perl+HTML::Mason, PostgreSQL, and... TBD, I guess. So many choices, so little time.
