A second look at reality
Today, I was in my new condo for the first time after settlement. It looks like there are the usual bits I didn't catch (laundry room lighting sucks, pantry needs a light, closets soooo need repainting), but nothing trips to Ikea and Home Despot won't solve.
On the other hand, it turns out that the security system installed is not only an ADT piece of crap (I knew this, which is why I'm installing a new one)—it's wireless. Furthermore, it's such a piece of crap that the battery for the living room motion sensor is dead and the main panel says that everything's fine. Whiskey tango foxtrot, over.
On the gripping hand, now that I'm going to have to run cables to all the rooms anyhow, adding $300 or so and not that much extra labor isn't too bad.

And, if this happens to any of the sensors, the main alarm unit will take it upon itself to inform us every 8 hours, setting off the main siren for this purpose as well.
Yeah, this happened recently (2nd time in a row), and looks like one of the sensors actually doesn't work anymore, so now one of our motion sensors isn't actually on the system anymore (removing sensors from the system requires ADT guy, too).
