Green deed of the day
Jun. 11th, 2011 09:59 pmWent to Home Despot and picked up a bunch of electronic ballasts because I couldn't stand the magnetic ones anymore. The older ones were T12, at least thirty years old, and humming like a mofo. I was originally looking for T12 replacement ballasts for some reason, but you can only get two-bulb ballasts for T12.
So I switched the fixtures to T8, and saved $60. I'll save some money on the electricity bill (96W less to light the room, plus a bit because the newer ballasts are more efficient), and the bulbs will last longer (because the fixture runs cooler). Still, all I really care about is that the damn hum went away, and when I flick the switch the lights turn on instantly.
