Random product reviews in brief
Dec. 6th, 2007 01:00 amAfter not having a TV for three months, and managing to procrastinate just fine without one, I acquired a Pioneer PDP-427XG1 42" plasma display. Sweet even on 480p-upconverted-to-720p sources; the coworker who helped me get it out of the rental van and set up said it's a lot better than her Chinese brand LCD. Major downside: the RS-232 port is marked service only, so AFAIK can't be used for device control.
The rental van was a Renault Trafic, which handles quite well for a 5 m3 steel box with wheels bolted on. Road noise could be a bit better, and needs more tiedown points in the cargo area and a rearview camera, but otherwise a decent rental for hauling plasmas around in.
1 The 428XG is available in several markets, but AAFES doesn't stock it yet, I wanted a TV now, and the differences between the 427 and 428 (primarily higher contrast and an extra HDMI port) are miniscule compared to the difference between my old Toshiba CN27H95 (pretty good for a 27" tube) and the 427.
