The joys of house hunting
Mar. 23rd, 2004 07:09 pmOkay, so I've been looking for a place to buy (condo/townhouse within 15 min of work) since last week. Called up a realtor with an interesting listing in MLS; as it turned out, the condo sold for $5000 over the list price, but he said me several more potential listings. (In fact, listings seem to persist on sites such as realtor.com for a while, and only a small fraction of the listings you see there are active.) I had scheduled two showings for Sunday, but my realtor had a family emergency and was unavailable. Those properties had been taken off the market, so I scheduled two more showings for today. Those, too, went under contract before I could see them.
However, there was an interesting possibility posted to the real estate newsgroup at work, and I just received a call from the owner. While the condo in question is expensive, so is everything else around here (thank God for interest-only securities-backed mortgages!), and it's only a ten minute drive from work. It sounds like this property could be just what I'm looking for, and I'll be seeing it on Thursday. Wish me luck...
P.S. I attempted to dictate this LiveJournal post with MacSpeech. While its performance is improving, I'm still correcting a lot of words. I really need to go through more of the training.
