  • UPS: Won't hold a package at the station until delivery has been attempted at least once. Won't specify delivery time with any precision (the latest InfoNoticeSM says 1030-1700). Can't pick up on the same day as an attempted delivery.
  • Airborne ExpressDHL: Held for pickup prior to attempted delivery with no problems. As a bonus, the station is open on Saturdays.

Neither has the über-l33t near-realtime tracking of COSMOS, but you can't have everything.

I don't receive things from DHL very often, but I definitely prefer both FedEx and plain old USPS over UPS. I'm not sure how it happened, but today, UPS apparently came twice (once in the morning and once sometime in the afternoon) to silently deposit some next-day air items on our front doorstep. No doorbell ring or anything either time they came so each was left undiscovered ourside our house for hours each (where we'd be worried about theft if we lived a few miles closer to the city). And it does puzzle me why they didn't just bring both packages at the same time.

Thankfully, most services will leave the package at my apartment complex's office if I'm gone. Otherwise, the timing of the UPS guy is known and reliable to me (1:00pm +/- 10 minutes), so if I need to be there because it's something big I want right at my door, I can :)
